Kitchen Tarot: Today is my 4 Year Blogiversary!

Today was so hectic and stressful that I was going to skip posting, but I realized this afternoon that it was September 30th, which marks my blogiversary! I can't believe I have been blogging here for four years now. A presidential term! It really doesn't seem that long.

I drew three cards to represent my 4-year celebration: Death, Wheel of Fortune and the Emperor (or The Compost Pot, The Lazy Susan and The Fridge).

Death: There have been several times when I have considered giving up blogging. I don't know if I have ever committed to anything for four years (not counting motherhood!). So this is a big deal to me. I haven't let this blog die, though I have taken small breaks in order to rejuvenate my interest in it. The thing that keeps me interested in tarot is that it is ever changing and growing. There is always more to learn. So it stays fresh for the most part, which helps keep my interest in blogging about it alive.

Wheel of Fortune: This is along the same lines as I was going with the Death card. Change is good. And it's a necessary trait in a thing if it's to keep me interested. If things are stagnant, I'm gone. Onto the next thing. So the Wheel of Tarot keeps me on my toes. Having a plethora of deck choices definitely helps hold my interest in writing about the same cards over and over, year after year.

The Emperor: I never can relate very well to this card, but it makes sense here. The Emperor sticks with something. He isn't flighty, he doesn't flow where the wind takes him. He makes a commitment and sticks with it. He would be proud of my 4-year mark.  The Emperor in this deck is portrayed by a fridge. It's where we get our nourishment, and I can see how blogging fulfills my need to express myself, share my enthusiasm about tarot and help others who are learning to read for themselves.

Thank you to all of my readers... all of your wonderful support and encouragement has meant the world to me.  Here's to another year... Year Five!

Kitchen Tarot: DMV Angel

Today I had to go to the DMV. Something no one looks forward to.  I had to get my new license in this state, and title and registration for my car.  The DMV is famous for having lines five miles long and you can pretty much count on spending a good chunk of your day there... so it wasn't something I was terribly excited about.

I have a friend that I call on for protection and good luck with my car. He's a friend who passed away a few years ago, but we always had good times and funny memories as teenagers together in our cars, so I always feel he's looking out for me when I'm driving and need car assistance.  So this morning I called on him asking for my trip to the DMV to go smoothly. I put a gemstone in each of my two pockets... stones that represent good luck and that I affiliate with my dear friend.

Before I left the house, I drew these cards. Actually, Temperance flew out of the deck, which was quite magical since Temperance is usually depicted by an winged angel, and I had just called on my angel friend for help.  And the first thing I thought of was the last time I called on him for help, I also received the Temperance card (here). And both that time and today, my experiences turned out to be divinely out of the ordinary.

I then cut the cards and drew two more. I was not suprised, but delighted nonethless at the magic, when the Chariot was the first card I cut to. It doesn't get more accurate than drawing the Chariot for a trip to the DMV!  Last was The Hanged One (which is appropriately named The Kitchen Timer in this deck), and I assumed it represented the huge amount of time I would have to invest in the errand.

When I got to the DMV, I was informed that I had to go to the next town for my license, as they didn't do them at my local office. But I was able to get my title and registration there. There. Was. No. Line.  I am not even kidding. No line. It was empty!!!  Completely empty. I walked right up and I kid you not, the two ladies behind the counter playfully fought over who got to help me. Not who HAD to help me... who GOT to help me!  The lady I ended up with was amazing. She was so nice, so sweet, so helpful, so friendly, so happy, I thought I was in another world. When I was leaving, I told her she was absolutely the nicest person I had ever met at a DMV, and I thanked her.  She then touched her heart and thanked me, and not just verbally, but her expression and the soul in her eyes was so heartwarming. I swear to you that I left that DMV with tears in my eyes. My kids asked me why I was about to cry! I put my hands in my pockets and silently thanked my angel friend. He definitely went above and beyond for me today.

So then we went to the other DMV to get my license.  There wasn't much of a wait there, and it all went smoothly. I guess the Timer card referred to the amount of time it took, having to go to two offices, rather than waiting forever in one office.

Also, on an unrelated note, we got a new cookbook today, and the recipe my son wanted me to make required a rolling pin, but I left ours behind when we moved. I'll have to get another one ASAP. So it was synchronous to see the Chariot being represented by a rolling pin in this deck today.

Kitchen Tarot: Pink Eye!

How's that for a lovely title to welcome myself back to blogging?!  Yes, I'm back after over a month of traveling across the country, visiting with family and moving into our new house. I'm thrilled to say that our trip went beautifully, without a hitch, even during Mercury Retrograde! I'm still getting settled in, but wanted to jump back into blogging.  Thank you so very much to everyone who wrote to me, wishing me a safe and happy trip. ♥

Getting our new home set up has mainly revolved around the kids' rooms and the KITCHEN.  With three kids, I spend a great deal of time in the kitchen, so it's the room I wanted to perfect before anything else. The owners of the house left it a mess, so I had a lot of cleaning to do.  So I thought the Kitchen Tarot would be perfect to use this week, since I've been practically living in it.  I picked up this deck just a few weeks before we moved, so I haven't had a chance to blog with it yet.

Today's cards illustrate how I woke up this morning.  The Empress + The Fool made me think "Mother and Child". And the Fool card, with the big black cat on it just happens to refer to my daughter who is a huge cat lover. And the cat's huge eyes are also relevant, as this reading is about her eyes. (And the holes in the colander now look like a bunch of eyes! Judgment always makes me think of waking up.  I woke up this morning to find that my youngest daughter had pink eye, poor thing. That is never fun.  Judgment in this deck is the silverware drawer, where you have many options. I made a judgment call this morning and ran to the local health food store to pick up some colloidal silver for her, rather than taking her to the doctor for damaging antibiotics. The theme of this deck also makes me think of kitchen home remedies, so that fits in nicely.

(The Kitchen Tarot is a 22-card Majors-only deck.)
