(Read the post title... don't say I didn't warn ya!)
This week I'll be using my Dark Angels Tarot
, which I haven't given any attention to, aside from this reading, since I got it last year.
This morning I woke up feeling a bit out of sync, emotionally and physically. I couldn't put my finger on the bleh, not-so-happy feeling, and my belly wasn't feeling too good. When I got out of bed and started getting ready for the day, I realized that it was that time of the month. It was bizarre to me that I felt anything at all, because I never have any symptoms. No PMS, no moodiness, no physical discomfort whatsoever. (After pulling my cards, I made myself a cup of tea and a piece of toast, played a game of backgammon with my daughter, and after that I was totally fine, both physically and emotionally.)
Now normally I would entirely skip posting about menstruation, because really, who wants to read about that? But the cards I drew were a pretty interesting interpretation of the experience, so I thought it might be interesting/helpful to share how the cards really can come together to illustrate anything in life.
The first card that drew my attention was The Moon, as it referred to my monthly cycle. It also reminded me of how I had chosen to sleep with a moonstone under my pillow last night. I was searching through my stones, and that one just called out to me. My unconscious mind knew more than I did!
The Page of Cups illustrated the slight darkness and sensitivity I felt, emotionally, waking up this morning. (It also reminded me of a menstrual cup
, and I think there's even one called the Moon Cup, which ties back to the Moon card I drew!)
The Four of Discs (Pentacles) took awhile to make sense to me, but it suddenly hit me. It usually means someone clutching onto something too tightly. Like the way a contraction feels. Or a cramp. Wow, right? So now, I can add "mentrual cramps" to my arsenal of ideas for the Four of Pentacles. So by the usual meaning of this card, it was illustrating the slight physical discomfort I felt in my belly, laying in bed in the morning. Interestingly enough, the woman in this card isn't clutching onto the coin for dear life, as is usually seen in this card, which just happens to make sense for me today, as the minor crampy feeling didn't even last an hour.
So there you have it.
While I'm on the subject, since I'll probably never come back to it again here, I just had to share a term I heard used for a woman's menstrual cycle which I thought was just fantastic. Last year when I was reading Abundance, A Novel of Marie Antoinette
(which I highly recommend), Antoinette referred to her period as "the Générale". As in, "the Générale is tardy", or "has the Générale arrived?" I think it's great fun to fancy it up like that. Makes Aunt Flo sound quite like a back woods hick, doesn't it?
(For the record, I never refer to it as "Aunt Flo", despite this post's title.)

That is a great interpretation - I don't think I would have clicked that the 4 of pentacles is cramps, but it totally makes sense. You are very lucky to have no symptoms, I must say.
Yeah, after all these years of reading tarot, this is the first time I saw the Four of Pents as cramps! That's what's so great about the cards... there's always something new cropping up!
(And yeah, I'm really grateful I've never had any monthly symptoms!!)
Hi, and very interesting reading your readings with this deck! I have a question and that is, do you use positions for each of the cards in these readings, such as past present and future? I ask because in this reading all cards seem present-oriented and do not seem to have pre-defined positions that I can discern. Very intrigued with your method. Thanks!
For my daily readings, I don't use positional spreads. I just read the cards as I see them.
