Fey Tarot: Collecting Testimonials

It came as no surprise to me that the cards today are referring to my final tweaks on the website. Pretty neat though, as all that's really left for me is to add a few testimonials to my site, and that's what I saw in the cards today.

The Two of Pentacles is the card that has been popping up several times this week, indicating "working together" in various ways. Today I see it as the act of performing a reading for someone. I see the client holding the reading in her hands, while I am the green faerie, acting as a universal messenger and spiritual delivery agent.

The Ace of Swords illustrates the client receiving new clarity. And the Nine of Chalices shows the client satisfied with this new insight at the end of the reading, who will then share their testimonial/recommendation.

I have been gathering a few words from some of my clients to share on my site. The new site will launch on February 1st. It will not be a finished product, as I still have elements that I will be adding to it as time goes on, but at least it will be presentable on the 1st. So hopefully next week I'll stop getting all these website readings in the cards!

*If I have read for you, and you would like to share your thoughts on the experience, email me at TarotDame@gmail.com. Your byline can appear as public or anonymous as you'd like.*

Fey Tarot: Website Warrior!

These cards are cracking me up. The Ace of Wands appears again, relating to my new website project. She has a satisfied smile on her face, which is how I am feeling today. The Knight of Swords was me yesterday... the website warrior. I worked most of the day on my dad's site, then spent the rest of the afternoon/evening/night on my own site. I was shocked when I looked at the clock and it was nearly 2 a.m! I am never (ever, ever) up that late. Normally, my body shuts down completely around 11-12 o'clock. And at 2 a.m., I wasn't even tired! I was wired. But I shut down my computer and went to sleep, because I knew I would feel it in the morning if I didn't get enough rest. This Knight of Swords behavior is so unlike me, it was bizarre. I was very much like the faerie in this card, determined and hell bent on getting it done! I was still buzzing inside as I lay in bed.

The World card shows that my work is almost done! Thanks to the extra hours I was able to put in last night, I made so much progress, and I will be able to launch the website sooner than I had expected to. I will still be working on it, adding more elements to the site as time goes by, but it will at least be suitable for viewing very soon.

I love the World card in this deck. The snail lets me know that now I can take it easy, and pace myself, since most of the work is now done. Funny, my mind also made the connection, my site being on the World Wide Web. :)

Fey Tarot: A Website for the Emperor

The cards are all about websites this week. The Two of Pentacles has come up for me a few times this week when doing readings about working with others. This card today is surrounded by two men... the King of Pentacles and the Emperor. I am working on a website for my dad, for a company which he runs with his son (but his son really does absolutely nothing except provide the name for the company, using his initials). So they are the two men in these cards. The King of Pentacles is my dad's son with a grimace on his face, turning his back on me and my dad. He and my dad are thick as thieves, but he has an attitude with me, so I am working exclusively with my dad (The Emperor) on the website. In these cards, it looks as though the Emperor looks on while I do most of the work. And that's definitely the case here, which is actually preferable to me because I get things done faster when working alone.

I was just hoping that I would get a couple days off, because I'd prefer to finish up my own website. But, the cards were right. I ended up spending the day taking photographs and adding more things to his website.

Now I am playing catch-up for all the things that I need to get done for me.

Fey Tarot: Designing a New Website

This trio of cards today clearly indicates my current status... working on my new website.

The Four of Wands shows fey folk prettying up their home... which is me, putting the bells and whistles on my new home on the web (one faerie is even holding a bell!).

The Judgment card shows how exhausting this event can be at times. There is so much to consider, and pull together. So much tweaking to get things just right. This card also reminds me of my lovely friend Hannah who has tirelessly helped put my new banner together just the way I wanted it. In the end, this card promises that all the hard work will be work the effort.

And the Ace of Wands shows a bright new project. The budding of a new pursuit, which describes this situation perfectly. I love how the greenery is growing right out of the faerie's back. This illustrates how this endeavor of mine is very much a part of me.

Fey Tarot: Receiving a New Tarot Deck

Today's cards came to life in a most wonderful way. The Six of Pentacles told me that I would be receiving something today. (I also went to the post office this morning to mail out some tarot bag orders, so I thought it might also be alluding to that).

The Stars card reminds me of my Tarot Dame logo. So this card gave me the idea that I would be receiving something related to my tarot business.

And the Knave of Chalices looks with interest at the fish in her cup. This card reminds me of the dreamy Pisces quality that my son possesses. He will sometimes be off in his own little world, oblivious to what's going on around him. I always tell him he's off in La-La Land. So with this card, it looked to me like whatever it was I'd be receiving would be something that would pique my interest and have me mesmerized.

A few hours after drawing these cards, my son ran to the mailbox in the rain. In his arms was a package for me. (Funny that I drew his significator card, and he's the one who delivered the parcel to me.) Inside the package was a newly self-published tarot deck. It's a review copy that I have been excitedly awaiting. So these cards were right on the money! I am indeed enamored of the deck and its presentation.

I must wait for the go-ahead from the deck creator before posting images on my blog, as she doesn't have the website ready yet. So hopefully I will be able to share this new treasure here with you soon!

As a side note, I found it neat that I mailed a bag out to someone in the UK today, and the deck I received was mailed from the UK. I thought that was a lovely example of a Six of Pentacles cycle.

Reading: Should I Trim My Deck?

So yesterday, I had the itch to trim the borders off my Fey Tarot (this would be the 9th deck that I have trimmed). I never really clicked with this deck, so I wondered if I cut the washed-out borders off, if the deck would speak to me more. I went through my scans and selected two random cards (The Fool and Three of Swords, above) and cropped them on my computer to see how they would look trimmed. I really liked the change. I wanted to trim them, but was having second thoughts because it takes a lot of work, and I didn't know if I wanted to invest the time in prettying up a deck that I never choose to use anyway. So I decided to do a reading about it. (I remember before trimming one of my other decks, I had asked the deck first if I should trim it, and I drew the King of Swords, which I took as a very clear sign to hack away!)

I used my Yes/No spread for this reading.

Should I trim the borders off my Fey Tarot?

Yes, if I want this outcome:
Nine of Pentacles
I often see this card as the illustration of the song "My Way" by Frank Sinatra. This is a card of independence, and getting to where you want to be by doing things your way. If I want to approach this deck the way I really want to, then yes, I should trim the borders off.

No, if I am looking for this outcome:
The Devil

Ha! And this is quite the opposite from the "My Way" theme of the Nine of Pentacles. This card is doing something someone else's way. The Devil makes you do things you don't want to do, by giving you excuses for why you can't have it your way, and tempting you with false promises. So, if this is what I want, to leave my deck untouched, like most people do, then I should not trim it.

Something to consider:
Three of Swords

Wow! Now here is a perfect example of a card's meaning having nothing to do with why it came up in a reading. This card was one of the two images that I had test-cropped on my computer. This was the card that, when cropped, made me want to trim the whole deck. So for this card to come up, out of the 78 possibilities, as what I need to consider, then I'd say that was as sure a sign as I could get!

I immediately grabbed my scissors and corner rounder, and trimmed away! And I am very happy with the results. When I first got this deck, I was disappointed that the colors on the cards weren't as vibrant as the scans show online. Adding that to the washed out border color really made it unappealing to me. Now the colors seem deeper, and I look forward to seeing if I click better with this deck now. I'll be using it for my daily draws this week.

Imperial Dragon Oracle: Lunar Love Potion

Today I'm using the newly published Imperial Dragon Oracle. Titled an oracle, it's actually a 22-card Majors-only tarot deck illustrated by the artist who brought us the Dragon Tarot.

Today I drew the Lunar Dragon, Temperance and Love. When Temperance falls in between two cards, I always see it as meaning that I need to blend the flanking cards together in equal proportions. The Lunar Dragon reminds me today of doing magical things when the moon is out at night. Being in the waxing moon phase right now, it's a good time to focus on increasing, or intentionally drawing things into your life. The card on the other side of Temperance tells me what I should make time to attract... Love!

Several days ago, I bought a red candle to use for the purpose of focusing my intentions on what romantic notions I want to attract to me this year. These cards are telling me that now is the time to do that. A few days ago, Jupiter entered my house of true love, and will stay there for most of the year, so it seems the celestial time is right.

Temperance also made me think of mixing a potion, so maybe I will have a look through one of my spell books and see if I can whip up some sort of lunar love potion that will make me irresistible to just the right guy (and invisible to all the losers).

I like that Temperance shows two dragons, as this further emphasizes the unification suggested by the card.

Success Cards: Balancing Work and Joy

These cards were very timely today. The day has just flown by, while I have been busy every second of the day, doing many things in different directions.

Balance Yourself tells me that I need to make sure that I don't overwork myself in one area while neglecting another.

Start Living! tells me to get myself out from under the burdens I've placed upon my shoulders today, and spend at least a little time doing something that I enjoy, so that the day is not wasted on responsibilities alone. All work and no play...you know the adage.

And the Work card shows a woman enjoying what she's doing. I am indeed working on things that I enjoy doing, so it's not all bad. This card reminds me to focus on the joy of what I'm doing while I'm doing it.

The cards are spot on today. They must have been watching me!

Healing With the Fairies: I Got You Babe

So funny. When I was shuffling this deck, I was thinking about the "Romantic Partner" card, remembering that it was the only card in the deck that features a male figure. So when it came up, I was surprised, and yet not.

A few days ago I did a tarot reading for myself regarding my romantic aspects for the next six months. The reading was crystal clear and very promising. These cards reminded me of that reading.

In the Family Harmony card, I see myself with a child on my back, riding toward the man in the middle card. There is a shield around me and the child (representing my children) showing that even though I am making forward progress in my feelings in the love department, I am still mindful to protect myself and my kids. The card's title reminded me of the exceptionally close bond my kids and I have... and if I were to introduce someone else to the mix, he would have to be a harmonious fit, rather than breaking up the dynamic.

The man in the Romantic Partner card is a knight. Chivalrous, noble, honorable, romantic and gentlemanly. He also has dark wavy long-ish hair, which I love!

The Kindness card shows a fairy who is the spitting image of Cher. When I saw this card, I had this feeling that this knight has been kissed by the Kindness Fairy, and she watches on as her magic works in his, mine, and my children's lives.

The Kindness Fairy looking so much like Cher, and this being a reading revolving around love, I heard a song pop in my head. Sonny & Cher's sweet and romantic song, "I Got You Babe" (which even references long hair on a guy!):

Faerie Wisdom: Taking Emotional Inventory

This week is going to be Oracle Week here on the blog, which I do every once in awhile. Today I used my Faerie Wisdom deck that I got months ago, but have never used yet.

The Undine: Winter: Emotional tides are turning.

The Changeling: Fall: Good seeds remain from fallen fruit.

The Grateful Faeries: Winter: Faerie gifts are showered as a reward.

One Fall card and two Winter cards indicates to me that there are things that I need to release and let die.

The Undine tells me that my emotions are changing and I must embrace these changes, and not resist them.

I sensed The Changeling offering this little tip: When you think all is lost, look again. There is something that remains which can be of benefit to you. Tying this into the previous card's message, I am being advised to put my emotions through a strainer. Let all the negative or outgrown feelings be drained away, while the pulp of helpful emotions remain.

The Grateful Faeries pull up the rear, offering me rewards for following through with the previous cards' advice. I'm all for receiving faerie gifts, so I'll be sure to give this reading some careful thought today!

This is a cute little deck. I'm a big fan of Emma Garner's artwork (Good Witch, Bad Witch, Celtic Messages, Art of Tarot to name a few). The little book that accompanies this deck is also cute, but I haven't read it through in its entirety. The type started getting fuzzy when it seemed to me that every card meaning was basically the same (good luck, happiness), with the words mixed around a little bit. I want more variety than that from an oracle, so I will just use the cards on their own whenever I pull this deck out.

Deck Review: Morgan's Tarot

When I received a review copy of the Morgan's Tarot, I was beyond thrilled to know that US Games was reprinting this unique deck. The Morgan's Tarot is an 88-card deck which, despite its title, reads more like an oracle. There are no Major/Minor correspondences, nor are their suits or courts, or order of any kind.

This is a simply-drawn, yet engaging and funky, black and white deck that makes a modern comeback (originally published in the 70's). The deck is silly and nonsensical, yet at the same time deeply philosophical, and this paradox is what makes this deck so magical.

The Cards
The cards measure 2.75" x 4.5" and are lightly laminated, yet not overly glossy. They are printed with black ink (front and back) on white background. The backs are not reversible.

The cards vary from universal symbols (such as Love) to the downright bizarre (Pigs and Fishes Surround You). However, when drawing a card that seemingly makes no logical sense, you are forced to use your intuition to make a connection, and therein lies the beauty of this deck.

When flipping through the deck, it should come as no surprise to see cards featuring a marijuana leaf, or referencing drugs. Clearly, this deck was created with a little help from some of nature's herbs. If this offends you, then this might not be the deck for you (or you can simply remove those cards from the deck). That being said, I've never done drugs in my life, and have no issues with these cards.

There are a couple things that I would have liked to see changed about the way the deck was presented. First, as the deck is not numbered, it would have made more sense to arrange the cards in the accompanying LWB in alphabetical order. As it is, they are randomly ordered, so if you want to reference the booklet, you have to flip through until you find the card you are looking for. This seems unnecessarily inconvenient.

The other thing that made this deck only slightly less than perfect for me was the fact that the title card is also a working card in the deck (see above). When I first got the deck, I set that card aside, thinking it just an extra title card, as the deck's name and credits appear at the top of the card. It was only after doing a card count after a few readings, did I realize that I was missing a card, and that the title card was actually part of the deck.

How it Reads
One of my favorite cards in the deck is one of the nonsensical ones. "Let George Do It". It puts a ridiculous twist on the concept of delegation. It's exactly this sort of approach that keeps this deck interesting. Another favorite is "Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards for they are subtle & quick to anger". This card gives appropriate advice in a way that you are sure not to forget, and I believe that goes a long way in a reading. Another great one is "This may not be a perfect circle but it is a perfect... whatever it is." This deck has a quirky way of putting things which keeps your mind fresh, and lets you avoid getting stuck in a rut when considering interpretations.

There are some cards that are easy to interpret, like "Monday" which features a note with the word "messages" on it. This clearly refers to a message arriving on Monday regarding the inquiry. Then, on the flip side, we have a card like "Tomato, Potato, Eggplant" which is a bit more challenging to decipher. In this case, sometimes the accompanying book is helpful, and sometimes it just manages to confuse things even more.
"Tomato, Potato, Eggplant: Macrobiotic doctrine says that these vegetables are extremely yin, almost to the point of being poisonous. However, for most people tomatoes, potatoes and eggplant mean nourishment or practical considerations involving food."
So take from that what you will, and tie it into your reading, depending on what these veggies mean to you personally.

The deck actually reads surprisingly well. I pull cards that make me laugh, and give me some shockingly great insight at the same time. What a great combo that is! Rather than give you answers, I find that it will often ask you questions, which makes your readings with it more interactive and provides you with a proactive and introspective approach to the messages you receive.

The accompanying booklet includes your run-of-the-mill Celtic Cross spread, though it isn't titled as such.

Final thoughts
This is one fun new age deck! The bohemian hippie in me loves the freedom and funkiness this deck brings to a reading. I also really love the simplicity of the black and white drawings. The cards are so unique that they stick with you long after the reading is done, which I think is a great benefit if you want your readings to have impact and actually make a difference.

This deck was designed to raise universal consciousness, and I think it does an outstanding job at doing so, provided you allow its hidden intricacies to flow freely.

If you are looking for a deck that thinks way outside the box and gives you the liberty to let your intuition lead your reading, this little gem of a deck is a wonderful choice. It's definitely become a fast favorite of mine.

Morgan's Tarot will be available from US Games Systems Inc. after February 4, 2010.
