This evening I felt like using a playing card deck that was given to me by my mom last Christmas. It's a beautiful deck simply titled Antique Playing Cards. It's a transformational deck, meaning that the suit symbols are woven into the images as part of the scene. Some of the cards are illustrated horizontally, which makes for an interesting layout.
I wanted to have a peek at the weekend ahead. This was the first time I had included a Joker in my playing card reading. For some reason, I felt the urge to stick it in the deck, and decided haphazardly as I was shuffling that if I drew it, it would indicate something unknown... implying an element of surprise. And sure enough, it appeared in my reading!

(Click on the image above to see a closer view of the cards)
First I read the vertical pairs:
8H + 10S = a celebration regarding travel
Joker + AH = some unknown surprise having to do with something close to my heart
6S + 5C = a clear agreement
Next I read the triangles:
10S + Joker + 5C = A surprise travel arrangement
8H + AH + 6S = Clear, heartfelt rejoicing
So apparently there is going to be some surprise travel plans that will have me very excited. I was drawn to the pose of the woman in the Ace of Hearts, and it made me think that this event will be something that I have been wishing for.
I will have to update this post after the weekend (which I am now very much looking forward to!) Update: See comments for update on the reading.
Note: The deck version I have is published by B.Shackman & Co., Inc. It's a replica of an antique French deck originally printed "around 1805". I haven't scanned the back yet, but it features a pink and white design, including a border and what looks like four lotus blossoms in the center.

Nice cards and an interesting reading!
I own the "Key to the kingdom"-deck, it is a transformational deck too.
Design by Tony Meuuwissen.
Maybe I should give it a try.
this deck really caught my attention so i went searching for it online and only found one page that was selling only 4 of the cards. which, or course, made me want it even more!
is it possible find out where your mom got them?
Erin.
Cartomancy is very interesting. Do you have a book that you consult when reading this deck?
Neat reading -- it will be fun to find out how your weekend progressed!
:) Nette
Hi Sylke! I don't have the Key to the Kingdom deck yet, but it's on my wish list!
Erin... I don't know where you can get the exact deck I have, I looked online with no success. But it looks like it was reprinted by Lo Scarabeo under the name of Goethe Playing Cards. The coloring is a bit different, and the backs are entirely different, but from the few images I have seen online, they appear to be the same images. So if you do a search for the Goethe cards, they seem to be readily available. HTH!
Hi Nette! No, the cards didn't come with a book. They are just a pack of playing cards. I began my studies with cartomancy using the Personal Prophecy method, but I found that a lot of the meanings weren't working for me, so I now use a combination of PP and my own personal meanings for the cards that I created to better suit my needs.
The cards ended up being about a friend of mine who is traveling to FL this week, and she's going to try to bring me some of the stuff I have in storage from halfway across the country. So it did have to do with travel, and it is something I have been long waiting for! Most of the stuff we have in storage is sentimental things that are close to my heart, so it was a delightful surprise to hear, and the reading made perfect sense!
